Stories
Every single one of these dogs has changed our lives. We hope we have also changed their lives for the better. We do our best to find the right fit for each individual dog. There's nothing we love more than getting happy updates over the months as they settle into their new home and experience the good life that all dogs should have the chance to live.  When we have the chance to visit after 3 months, when they are secure with their new family, that is our biggest joy. They are happy to see us, but also happy to show us their new home.

~Fiona~

Fiona's situation is identical to the case we first came across that pushed us to start a dog rescue on a whim. We could not sit by one minute longer while a Mama dog and her tiny puppies were going to be euthanized in a matter of hours, for no reason other than the shelter in South Carolina was overcrowded.

Fiona's Journey
Sweet Fiona was our most heart wrenching rescue yet, she was found in the most horrific conditions you can ever imagine, more emaciated than we had ever seen a dog before.
Arriving to us Sept. 14. 2024, after being found in South Carolina tied to a tree with no slack, her mouth duct taped shut, and pregnant. There was another dog with her that sadly didn't make it. Fiona was rescued just in time, in time to deliver her puppies at the shelter, in a safer environment. But she still wasn't safe. Fiona and her puppies were facing euthanasia.
Fiona was under 1 year old; she was somehow nursing 9 puppies in this condition. Even eventually letting another 6 older puppies nurse when their older, less tolerant Mama stopped once they had teeth.
We knew she had heart; she was such a good mama. Making sure her puppies ate before she would eat her food, the pups were excited to start solid food but still nursing in between. She was so calm, gentle, and giving of herself despite her the complete lack of her physical health.
She was never scared of us.  I will never forget the first day I took her out and she rolled around in the grass and I thought how good that must have felt and how grateful I was that we were able to rescue her and her puppies from euthanasia. She deserved a chance at life,
Fiona's forever family!
A little hesitant at first...

Fiona during her first couple of days with her new family, enjoying her new toys, curious about her new home and the small city life!
Conquering new things quickly like elevators and stairs.
She's settling in and getting all the love she truly deserves.
We could have never imagined a life and family so perfect for Fiona!

Cass

We Needed A Miracle!
Due to neglect and malnutrition poor Cass's bones weren't growing properly in is legs. Being special needs, he was close to the top of the euthanasia list, and we could only transport him to VT if we found someone who could provide the proper care for him.
We started a GoFundMe to raise money for possible surgery.
In a matter of days, an Angel reached out interested in helping Cass. Not just any Angel, a woman that is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and fosters about 30 dogs a year. Having wonderful connections with top notch Veterinarians and the overall capacity to provide Cass the care he needs.
Our prayers for Cass were answered, and he arrived on transport Feb 15th as the best post Valentines Day present ever, as he is such a lover and snuggler, and so grateful for his new family that rescued him from euthanasia.

Cass is safe and sound in a house full of love!
Cass will never have to worry again, he has 3 fur-siblings to look out for him and a family that will never leave him wanting for anything. We are so grateful, we didn't want to leave this cute, sweet boy behind.

Penelope

Penelope was one of our first rescues. She came to us in August 2023 so scared and timid. It took her several weeks to warm up to us but once she did her sweet personality really started to shine. Always so gentle, loyal and loving.

She soon became one of the smartest and most well-behaved dogs we've ever had the pleasure of having in our lives. Penelope was always friendly with all the new dogs and welcomed them to our pack. Still a tad timid but would warm up fairly quickly.

Penelope was with us for a year and a half without even one inquiry or application. Just before Thanksgiving 2024 she received (4) applications within a (2) weeks' time. We would only consider someone or a small family with patience and gentle spirit for Penelope. We wanted to be sure she ended up in the right environment to live a long happy life.

After (4) visits with Penelope, so that she wasn't leaving with a stranger, she was officially brought to her beautiful country home January 6th, 2025, to meet her (3) new fur-siblings and run and play all afternoon with her new family, a wonderful couple who live close by. While we miss her so much already and it's not the same without her here, we are confident she will love her new family and home, and we can't wait to see all the fun adventures the future holds for Penelope. <3

Success!
Honey was adopted!

Honey

Sadly, her owner passed away in August 2024. She was held at a boarding facility for about 3 months. Being 8 years old she was showing signs of depression, obviously missing the only family she ever knew and not having a place to call home.

When all of a sudden just the right family came along. They had an instant connection and haven't left other's sides since. Someone who is retired and can spend their days taking beautiful walks and afternoon naps with Honey, and she can shower them with affection and unconditional love.

It meant so much to us that we were contacted to help Honey find a new home and support her transition to a new owner. These are the stories that keep us going.

Miss Daisy!

Daisy's story is more than miraculous. She was found running after a car that had just abandoned her on a rural road in Texas, completely emaciated, to fend for herself.

Thankfully a true hero from the house nearby, who happened to be an experienced rescue dog foster, saw her running and was able to secure Daisy at her home.

Over the next year Daisy's foster hero did everything to take care of her and heal her from the abuse and trauma she had endured. While physically and emotionally Daisy was thriving and learning how to be a dog in a loving environment, at times finding a forever home seemed hopeless. Considering the never-ending growing number of abandoned, abused, neglected, stray dogs in critical need of rescue in TX and surrounding southern states.

Even though PCAR is located in Vermont we wanted to support Daisy and her foster family in any possibly way and gladly added her to our website, social media, and our Petfinder account. Hoping to find a home in the safe northeastern part of the country.

Just before Christmas 2024, I received a message from Daisy's foster Mom that she had officially been adopted! While it didn't happen directly through PCAR, a single Mother and her son found Daisy on Petfinder thanks to the foster Mom's friend sharing Daisy's Petfinder profile!

2025 is going to be an amazing year full of love and adventure for Daisy and her new family! We'd like to thank everyone who helped Daisy along the way by sharing her profile and social media posts. It truly takes a village to care for these furry companions we consider family

Marley & Scout were our first surrenders when we started in June 2023. They had been kept in crates all of their lives, made to fight over food, and rarely got time outside, despite other dogs in the house roaming free.
Both were seniors by the time we got to save them, 8/9 years old, and of course have sore joints from being in crates so much, one of them didn't even have a bottom in the crate, just the wire.
Both are in amazing loving homes with all the comforts they should have had all along, sleeping in comfy beds, all the snuggles and treats. Lots of time outdoors, lots of walks, and smothered with love.
We are so grateful to be able to give them the happy, healthy lives they deserve before it was too late, they will be able to have several good years with their new families.
Windy
&
Cloudy
After spending 8 months with us, Cloudy & Windy, the cutest sisters from the south, have both been adopted into the same home by a wonderful local family! We are beyond excited and grateful! They are doing great, especially with a patient and dedicated family! So happy for them!

We got to visit them about 4 months after they were adopted, it was so wonderful to see how well they are doing and love their new home and family. They remembered us too and were happy!
Blue
Blue was our first adoption on our own after an 8th month dry spell, after we foster for Winnie's Legacy.

We could not have asked for a better family to adopt Blue! We couldn't be more grateful for Nichole's sister-in-law Kristen, and her partner, Howard, who supported us through sharing our posts, it goes so far and means so much!
Their good friends reached out and adopted Blue, and he has 2 awesome brothers and a beautiful big yard and home in the country.
We get updates and photos often, from Blue's family and from Kristen and Howard when they visit. Blue got the wonderful life he deserves!
Luna
Luna is a city girl now! With her new family who are so excited to watch her grow up as a part of their family. They will be moving out to the suburbs and have a great yard to play in too! She will be well traveled and is living large a spoiled only child furbaby!
Ollie
Ollie was one of PCAR's first adoptions, and best of all adopted by family! Ollie is Iris's baby boy, and Luna's (above) brother. He has 4 step-fur-siblings, and a very loving and fun family.
It's great being able to stay in touch with him and visit!
Look at how sweet he is with commands and the baby, what more could you want <3

Guinn the Guinea Pig!

Guin found his new home! While we had found someone interested in adopting him, the owners themselves found their own, but at least we had a backup, and now everyone is settled and happy!
